Description
Some of the world's finest white wines are grown in Puligny-Montrachet. The most famous and probably the best of them all comes from the Le Montrachet vineyard. Half of this vineyard is located in Puligny and half in the commune of Chassagne. In addition to Le Montrachet, Puligny is also home to the Grands Cru Chevalier-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet. Puligny wines are exceptionally refined, with beautiful nuances and a great deal of complexity.
Relaxing in the glass with aromas of peach, blossom, white flowers, ripe pears and beeswax, the 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse is medium to full-bodied, opulent and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acidity and a long, salty finish. As usual, the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse is one of the more gastronomic wines in the range, begging to be paired with refined (fish) dishes.
The wine has been awarded (91-93) Parker points and Marc Colin is considered one of the best producers in Burgundy. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of peach, vine blossom, white flowers, ripe pears and beeswax, the 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse is medium to full-bodied, sumptuous and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and a long, saline finish. As usual, it's one of the more gourmand wines in the range.
Damien Colin reported that his yields were some 30% below average and that the crop ripened rapidly, "even very rapidly." Indeed, having projected a September 15 start, he began picking on September 7. Alcohol levels came in for the most part between 13% and 13.5%, with good phenolic maturity and lower pHs than in 2018. Having learned from a succession of warm vintages, every effort was made to retain freshness: working with cool grapes, minimal bâtonnage and moderate percentages of new oak. And in the vineyards, Colin is backing off rognage, working more flexibly to adapt to the vintage. All this translates to a very fine vintage chez Colin, delivering wines that are more concentrated and more clearly defined by site than the charming, open and expressive 2018s, also revisited here.

Marc Colin comes from a wine family in Burgundy with a strong reputation. Together with his two sons, he manages a domain of 20 hectares located in the village of Saint-Aubin in the Côte de Beaune.

He exclusively owns top appellations: Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Premier Cru vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin and Pernand-Vergelesses. This is very exceptional. This domaine is known for its quality, yet Colin sees an opportunity to continually improve this. That is why he is receiving increasingly favorable reviews in the international press. Colin's wines excel in purity and combine power with elegance. Perhaps a bit shy in their youth, but with enormous storage potential. Traditionally minded, he vinifies his wines with a remarkable intuition for nature. Although he is open to innovation, he sticks to a traditional style and strives for optimal freshness in his white wines and avoids the wood-dominated Chardonnay type. He is the most awarded winegrower from St-Aubin and owner of Restaurant Le Chassagne, which has 1 Michelin star.
