Description
In 1992 Thomas Haag, the son of the celebrated Brauneberg winemaker Wilhelm Haag, took over the Schloss. It was already very good, but Thomas has made it a Champions League domain by working hard. According to the Gault Millau, it belongs to the very best in Germany. And the only domain in Germany to receive the highest award in all guides! The suppleness and drinkability are trademarks of Schloss Lieser, such elegance and above all the temptation to swallow a wine can be found at few other producers. In short, a must have!
The former Kabinett SL was renamed Kabinettstück in 2018 with the 2019 vintage. The Riesling trocken Kabinettstück is pure, straight and intense with a reductive and attractive slate nose. Juicy and spicy on the palate, this is a great Kabinett with intensity, grip and complexity. Very stimulating.

Thomas Haag had to change the name of the Kabinettstück because German wine officials found the smart name too similar to the predicate Kabinett, which is true of course, but Kabinettstück is literally a small-sized masterpiece, which this wine certainly is. So, now it's called Kabistück, which is in fact much closer to Kabinett than you might think since Kabi is the colloquial term of Kabinett but, well, German officials are in their own Kafkaesque category. The 2021 Riesling trocken Kabistück opens with ripe pear and nectarine aromas intertwined with a finely flinty tone of crushed blue slate. Pure and enormously saline on the palate this is a dry and savoy, still a bit untamed dry Riesling with grip and character. It is an excellent expression of terroir and vintage. 11.5% stated alcohol. Tasted in July 2022.
