Description

The climate in the Vallée du Layon is perfectly suited to the development of botrytus cinerea (noble rot). The cool, damp nights, morning dew and mist, alternating with warm, sunny afternoons ensure a controlled growth of these fungi. This results in beautiful sweet wines with a unique, complex character.

The grapes for Château Soucherie Coteaux du Layon Patrimoine are harvested at different times, with only the perfectly ripe grapes being selected. After a soft pressing, spontaneous fermentation takes place with the help of natural yeasts, after which the wine matures for another 12 months in oak barrels. The result is a soft, slightly sweet wine with a nice balance between ripeness, sugars and fresh acids. In the nose aromas of juicy citrus fruit and somewhat riper fruit, such as lychee. Pleasantly round and slightly sweet in taste with lively acids. The wine is (well chilled) thirst-quenching and delicious as an aperitif.

About Château Soucherie

Château Soucherie owns 28 hectares of vineyards planted with Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. These are used to make Anjou Blanc, Rouge and Villages Rouge. The estate also has vineyards in Coteaux du Layon (including the premier cru Chaume) and in Savennières (Clos de Perrières). The château is currently still in the process of converting to fully organic viticulture, for which the house will receive official certification in 2022. Read more under the tab: Winery

WINE-FOOD SUGESTIONS:

  • Dutch goat cheese with walnuts and honey
The fresh acids and sweet character of the wine balance perfectly with the creaminess of the goat cheese and the nutty accent.

  • Thai chicken with coconut milk and lime
The wine holds up well to the light spiciness and creaminess of the dish and enhances the fresh citrus character.

  • Salad with mango, avocado and crayfish
The exotic fruit and soft texture of the salad match perfectly with the aromatic sweetness of the wine.

  • Apple galette with almond paste and cinnamon
The caramelized apples and spicy notes combine beautifully with the rich, honeyed profile of the wine.

  • Foie gras with brioche and candied figs
The creamy, fatty texture of the foie gras calls for the fresh sweetness of this Coteaux du Layon, while the figs deepen the wine's aromas.

  • Quail stuffed with apple, onion and raisins, served with a cider jus
The combination of sweet, savoury and spicy in the dish is refined by the lively acids and rich texture of the wine.
