2023 Harken Barrel Fermented Chardonnay

Harken is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, grown under the California sun without GMOs or pesticides. The fruit is sourced from cool climate vineyards in Monterey and Clarksburg. The cool air comes from the ocean (with its cold Gulf Stream) that creates the near-permanent fog in the San Francisco Bay. Winemaker Adam Popp ferments 100% of their Chardonnay in barrels, which gives it that creamy malolactic goodness that just can’t be replicated. For added flavor complexity, Harken ferments and ages in their signature fusion barrels, which consist of alternating planks of French and American oak. During aging, the barrels are hand-stirred every two weeks to reintegrate the lees with the juice and deliver that lush mouthfeel. The Harken Barrel Fermented Chardonnay is a rich, creamy Chardonnay that still has a good amount of freshness. A Chardonnay with hints of tropical fruit, brioche and vanilla. In the taste you can taste crème brûlée and toasted bread, ripe pears and a hint of hazelnut. The wine has a long aftertaste and ends with a fresh touch.
