Description
Roman Niewodniczanski, who took over the domain in 2000 and completely restored it, is part of the Bittburger family. His drive for quality is unstoppable and his aim is to optimally let the various top terroirs (steep mineral-rich slate, sandstone and rhyolite) speak. For this, major investments have been made in the vineyards and the grapes are always picked late and manually in different phases at the end of October/November. Read more under the tab: Winery
The Van Volxem Volz Riesling Grosses Gewächs (GG) is a prestigious dry Riesling from the renowned Van Volxem winery, located in the Saar Valley within the Mosel region of Germany. This wine carries the classification Grosses Gewächs, which indicates a wine of exceptional quality from a "Grosse Lage" (Grand Cru) vineyard.
Originally, the Volz was a separate vineyard until 1971, when it was incorporated into the Wiltinger Braunfels. In the Prussian vineyard classification of 1868, this location was classified as Grand Cru. The vineyard borders directly on the famous Scharzhofberg and has 60-year-old vines growing on a steep slope with slate soils.
The Van Volxem Volz GG Riesling presents itself with a bright golden color and green reflections. The bouquet is immediately accessible with intense aromas of ripe peach, mirabelle plum, mandarin and a hint of kumquat. These fruity notes are complemented by spicy nuances and mineral accents such as flint and slate. In the mouth, the wine offers a refreshing sensation with a fine interplay of sweetness and acidity. The minerality and spicy elegance provide a refined finesse, resulting in a long, persistent finish.

The 2020 Goldberg GG is brilliant in color and aromas that show citric fruit intertwined with notes of crushed slate and quartz. Great purity and intensity here. Very elegant and refined on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, round and lush Riesling with a long and intense, very aromatic and stimulatingly salty finish. An impressive Goldberg again this year. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021.
